How did I get my name

Well, my background is Sri Lankan, and my religion is hindu. So that pretty much means that my names is picked based on astrology. So based on the star I was born on, my grandfather said my name had to start with a Y and it how to be worth a certain number. By that i mean we have this thing were certain letters have a value they are worth like the letter a might be worth 5. So my name had to be worth 12 and the letters in my name accumulate to 12. Plus my name apparently has something to do with a musical instrument even though I am not musical talent in any way. So there you have it thats the way I got my name some crazy hindu ways :P

The letter to my past self

Dear Yalini,

Hey! It's your future self talking to you! Okay so I know you just started high school and you feel shy! Wondering questions like will high school be the highlight of your life? What about your old friends? Will you fit in? Honestly you are such a worrywart. Dismiss all of your worry's and honestly be more outgoing! Don't worry about how other will think of you, just be yourself! One of my biggest regrets is the fact I was too shy to join clubs, try running for councils and talk to more people. So please for the sake of a better high school experience please be more outgoing! And stop caring about what other people think!! Another thing is start doing your work earlier! Procrastination equals stress so that hair you started off with in grade 9 is disappearing now! So start doing your assignments ahead of time if you wanna keep your hair still intact! Work on that indecisive manner and start making decisions more cause trust me thanks to that I still have no clue on what I wanna do! So Try to live a little you'll get invitations to parties make sure you go! Don't give yourself excuses like you will go next time, cause you won't. Trust me I know! Last thing I wanna tell you is don't stress about marks, I mean of course marks are important but there honestly not everything. One important thing is all the guys are stupid! Don't waste your time thinking about how so and so looks cute. Soon you will like someone and i'm telling this to save you from wasting your time. He has a girlfriend! So now that you know ahead of time those two years of feelings for him is what i'll save you from. Stop those feelings before they start and you'll know who I'm talking to. Another personal advice is don't go around trusting everyone because some people are not what they seem like. So thats the last personal advice I wanna give you because you need to learn somethings for yourself, it's all apart of growing up.Anyway I'm trying to say overall is live your life, stop worrying about what others say or about your marks. Try to have some fun and just live a little! Trust me then you wouldn't feel like high school wasn't the highlight of your life. So have fun that way you can look back on high school and see the happy memories instead of the hell hole you thought it was. One more thing STOP BEING INDECISIVE! Cause that will honestly stop you from so much things and will just give you regret. And that regret is a killer. So do me a favour and please listen to my advise. It will save you from a lot of heartbreaks and will hopefully make your life more fun.

Love,

Your future self, who can't wait to see you, hehe XOXOX <3

What have I learned In my teen years

When I think of my teen years it seems like they just flew past me. I am almost considered an adult which terrifies me, because I don't feel to ready for society. We have all been sheltered that I truly don't believe I'm ready for the "next step" but I learned some valuable lessons in my teen years that might help me for the adult world. The lessons I have learned that I consider valuable are "Don't just trust anyone or believe everything you here". These lessons I learned helped a lot, as a kid I was very naive and believed everyone was good but through my teenage years I realized how naive I was. I had been taught from a young age that we can tell the good from the bad, that the bad look scary, that this image came with the character they were. But this is not true at all we are easily deceived by appearance and someone who we think is nice is actually quite the opposite. I learned all of this the hard way, but of course learning these lessons is all apart of growing up. So unlike my naive self I know that I shouldn't trust so easily some people are clearly not what they seem to be. So I'll be careful on who I trust as some people are truly cruel in this world.
Ten Top Things To Do Over Christmas Break

1. Apply for university (cause I don't have my life planned out)
2. Get my Secret Santa gift! (I picked a hard one -.-')
3. Sleep in for as long as I want (even if it last for days)
4. Be in my pyjamas all day! (There so comfy)
5. Movie Marathon! (Playing all the classic christmas movies, my fav is home alone)
6. Going out for a family dinner (SUSHI)
7. Opening Presents!!! I can't wait to see what I get!
8. Going skiing (As much as that sounds like it's fun I can't ski properly so I always get hurt)
9. Going Boxing day shopping! Cute clothes for cheap!! I can't wait!!
10. Get caught up on school! Cause exams are soon!

Syrian Refugees Should we take them in?

Is that even a question? Of course we should take them in!! We shouldn't even think twice about that! These are people who have been through a lot, people just like you and me, who have gone through a rough time. So with taking them in it'll help them until they can get comforatable and can stand on their own feet. If the excuse on not to take them in is what if there terrorist? Then I will personally go to that person who questions them and give them a piece of my mind! Which is more like my fist :). Anyone can be a terrorist it isn't associated with a certain religion or race! So if thats an excuse on not to help our brothers and sisters then that pathetic excuse can go to hell! What's the problem with sparing some clothes and food to help those in need, we do it anyway so I'm sure our county can spare the refugees that we take. So of course we should take Syrian Refugees I'm sure if the tables were turned they would be kind enough to take us in and help us out. So yes we should take them in.

Principle for a week

If I was Principle for a week, I would start changing the rules! When it comes to the high school I attend there are a lot of things I had notice that need fixing. You will probably notice that there are some similarities between the high school I attend and the one you do. For starters the food! The cafe food is so expensive! Especially when it doesn't even taste that good! So as principle I would either lower the cost of the food, or get more high quality food. Another thing is start doing more charity work for other organizations. I love how our money goes to the Philippines to help out, but why only the Philippines other places need help to! So I would also spilt the money we receive from civies and donate it to other causes as well. I would also re-evalute the teachers I hire, based on constant complains from students of teacher, I don't understand why the board won't re-evalute the teachers to see if they are truly helping the students! So I would listen to the students and understand their concerns with how the school is run. Those are the three main things I would change if I was principle for a week. Though If I was principle permanently there is many more things I would change. ;)

Opinions on Love. Is it worth the heartache?

When it comes to love and relationships I am someone who admires them but would never be in one. Well I can't say never because I don't know what the future holds, but for the time being I wouldn't. I have never been in love just a few crushes on guys here and there but nothing where I would claim that these feelings are love. How do I know it's not love and just a crush? I believe love to be a feeling where you think of the other person's well being, sacrifice for them without even thinking thinking twice. I know there is a dark side to love one that involves pain. So am I afraid to fall in love? Yes. I've seen to much people hung up over ex's and I don't blame them at a time there ex's were there everything, someone they could talk to whenever they had a problem, someone that would understand and comfort them. For whatever reason whether it be a one sided or mutual break up someone always is devastated. I never want to be in that position, I'll admit I am a weak person so I don't know how bad love will screw me up so I am afraid. Even if people describe love to be a wonderful feeling that everyone should experience... doesn't heartache follow sometimes? I know you will never know where your relationship will take you but for know I don't think I am mentally ready to take that risk. I'm sure that I also don't trust teenage boys with my heart because they are clearly not mature enough for that task. With their superficial views they wouldn't even know the definition of love or what it is.  Breaking up isn't the only reason to be devastated sometimes a loved one passes away and you are left with constant heartache. Heartache that may make it hard to continue living but if I had got the chance to get rid of the heartache by erasing all the memories of me and my loved one, I would never take that chance. I would rather live with the heartache then ever get rid of my memories because no matter what I would never want to forget those happy memories. Those memories I'm sure would be important to me, they would remind me of the happiness my loved one had brought even if they are gone. Those memories would be a piece they left me where I would constantly think back to those moments. Love isn't something I want to experience yet but if heartache were to come with loving someone I would gladly accept it, if it means that there were good moments in our relationship. Moments where I was truly happy, moments that bring a smile to my face but also tears that stream down my face. You must think I am crazy but tears so I know that it was clearly a special memory. I might have to move on but that doesn't mean I have to erase the good times.

The best time of the year

The best time of the year in my opinion is Christmas! Not just because of presents but most importantly family time. I know what your thinking yeah yeah family time that's what everyone says but no family time is extremely important to me. My parents are working all the time, so we never got family time especially during the summer even if I were free they work throughout the summer. If your wondering about holidays my mom is home but my dad works during holidays so Christmas is the only time to truly spend time with my family. I don't only get time with my family but my extended family. Most of my cousins are older than me and attend university or are out of the country and Christmas is the only time that everyone comes back. I am really close with my cousins to the point where they are like my siblings so having them back is amazing. It means long sleepovers, Secret Santa (it makes us so anxious), decorating tree's and our annually cooking session. Thankfully Christmas is in winter so one of the best things is staying home in the warmth watching classic Christmas movies with family! My family being as sneaky as we are we realized that we can't just put our names in a hat and pick a name for secret Santa. We found this cite called www.drawnames.com so we get an email of our person and there list, so to the people who have the same problem with their friends or family you should use this cite! That still doesn't stop us from trying to guess who everyone has.My favourite part of the Christmas with my family is how we all assign each other to task when cooking dinner. So we all play a part in the meal we enjoy before we find out who everyone's secret Santa. We have a funny way to do this though where every two people use the same wrapping paper. So then we all get in a circle, turn out the lights and when the lights are off we throw our present to our person or if its glass we slide it to them. Then we all open presents with all of our family. So to me the best of the year is Christmas, let me know some of the traditions you have during Christmas!

Toronto-awesome or no?

I have lived in Toronto for as long as I remember and I haven't really gone out of the country. So I can't really compare Toronto to another city because then that would just be a bias opinion. Though I can tell you the reason why I feel Toronto is an awesome city to live in. Toronto has a lot to offer with our multicultural aspects, incredible sights and beautiful scenery. Toronto is very multicultural where we enjoy learning about different cultures with delicious food to try and traditions to participate in. Toronto as a city are very respectful to different religions and ethnicity where we promote others to practice their religion with no discrimination for example Muslims are allowed a specific break so they can complete their task of praying 5 times a day. Toronto has many incredible famous sites to see like the CN Tower! It is one of the tallest buildings in the world being 533.33 m tall and there is even 127 floors! Isn't that just amazing! There is even small places like Ripley aquarium or Toronto zoo, where you can see the aquatic life forms close up and appreciate the animals. I'm not just saying that you need to go to these sights to be amazed but if you go on a walk in Toronto , you will be left breathless. I am still amazed as to how a simple walk in Toronto can automatically get me to take out my camera and snap a few pictures. Nature itself is wonderful and since I haven't really been anywhere else, Toronto is a place where I see nature unravel, proving the true definition of beauty. So though I have only lived in Toronto my whole life I can honestly say that this is an amazing city where you will definitely find different cultures and beautiful sights. I hope that if you have a chance you guys can come down to Toronto and share your opinions about your opionon of Toronto. I hope you will love Toronto :)

My Near Death Experience

This story is actually quite funny when I think about of but only if I get passed the fact that I almost died! So let me begin my story, well it happened a couple of years ago when my entire family got together for a birthday party at the beach, With having a birthday party at the beach, us kids weren't really interested in cutting a cake and sitting around speaking. No we were more interested in when we get to jump in the water. So right as we are about to leave our parents stop us to tell us we have to eat then wait an hour before we go swimming, With our groans we listened to them and sat down waiting for the food to be served. After we ate and played volleyball we ran into the water. We didn't bring much toys to the beach we had brought one Frisbee to throw around in the water. Us girls were throwing around the Frisbee until the guys came and decided they wanted the Frisbee. Very soon it became a war over who got the Frisbee, as the Frisbee flew back and forth it landed in the water near me.I was farther away from where everyone was. I didn't know how to swim when I was nine so I was in the shallow water where I could touch the floor though the Frisbee was towards the deeper side. I didn't have much of a brain back then ... or even now, but in that moment after hearing my cousins screaming for me to get the Frisbee I ran towards it. In that moment I had realized that the water was waaayyy tooo deeeep for me. I begin to drown but the Frisbee was in my hands, so I begin to push down on it hoping I could balance myself while screaming for help. As I started screaming for help I found out that the Frisbee wasn't big enough to carry my weight, so my screams sounded muffled as water rushed into my mouth. Then I saw my cousin walking towards me! Great I am going to finally be saved! He walked right up to me looked me in the eye took the Frisbee and walked away! Being 5 years older than me, I am surprised that he is that stupid. Having nothing to balance on my head was going into the water as I struggled to keep it up.Thankfully my cousin also came after the Frisbee but unlike walking away from me she had a confused look on her face probably because I was squirming in the water. She started to walk towards me and came to realized what was going on so she rushed to picked me up. So thanks to her I was saved, I don't know if I would have died if I drowned because of course if CPR was done on me I would of survived, but that's the thing about life you never know.

Btw, I always remind my idiot cousin he could of let me die, but he did redeem himself in my other near death experience but I'll talk about that later.
Teachers

Every year I'm reminded by many teachers about what their job is, usually its the same thing definition. It runs along of the line of someone who does their best to inform their students and does everything in their power to help them. Slowly along the way I realize that some teachers who say this feel are in fact lying about their real intentions. There real intentions being that they would rather put their own needs over a students needs. I'm not saying every teacher is like this, I have had a fair share of teachers who love for there jobs but to those who don't, WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE?

If you don't like your job then why are you still here! Teacher's who don't like their job are just ruining the experience that a student would have if they had a teacher who was passionate about the subject they teach.Teacher's try to give the excuse that they have to deal with students with attitude which make them unable to like their job. But this attitude they speak about is simply students trying to give their opinion to which a teacher feels threatened by and therefore calls this attitude and sends them to the office.

With teacher's claiming that there job is to help students, is like I said a lie. I have went up to teachers after school to ask for help but they simply deny me the help that they are suppose to give because " it's Friday" or "they are too tired". With excuses like this can you even call yourself a teacher? I really question who does the hiring around here because if it were up to me half these teachers wouldn't have a job. They may have the credentials to teach but for sure they do not have the right mind set. To these teachers I ask of them to leave their jobs and pursue what they want to really do and if that's teaching then do a better job! Cause the way I see it, teachers are getting worse as I get older.

Though to those who love their jobs, and offer students help after school thank you for doing your job properly! Because of you guys I bet I understood the subject more or even liked it! So I owe you guys a special thank you!

But to those who don't .... I will always ask the same question WHY ARE YOU HERE?

Emotional Movies!

Naturally I try to avoid movies that involve tragedy because let's just say I cry buckets of tears to the point where my parents definitely get annoyed of hearing me cry. But sometimes I just feel like I'd want to watch a touching movie, no apparent reason maybe just cause I like the meaningful messages they have or I want to take a break on just comedy movies. Even though I know watching these movies results in piles of tissues, a faced soaked in tears I can't help but watch them, If I were to think of a movie that had me crying for a good hour or two after I finished it, that movie would be.... The Titanic.

This is a movie that I had watched a few years ago, for those who don't know the titanic is based on a true tragic story involving the RMS Titanic that collided with an iceberg on April 15th 1912 proceeding to the deaths of more than 1500 passengers and crew members. The Titanic ship only had 20 lifeboats this could only hold one third of the population, leaving the rest to die in the cold icy water.

The movie however takes a different approach it tells us a story about two fictional characters Rose DeWitt Bukaters and Jack Dawson. Being from different backgrounds they fall in love but they are met with misfortune when the Titanic strikes the iceberg. This movie was made beautifully in my opinion when we hear about the titanic sinking sure we think this it was tragic but we are not able to image the pain that the passengers felt knowing their lives were at risk but there was nothing they could do to save themselves. This movie had really put in the emotions and the feelings of all the passengers the night that the titanic sunk. And boy did it leave me speechless! Amazing actors, amazing effects I really have to thank James Camaron the director cause that movie was 10!

This movie was 3 hours and 14 minutes, I bet your thinking it's way to long for me to watch! I thought the same  when I first heard of this movie, I was like its too long. Knowing me I can't sit still for that long but honestly this movie had me anticipating every moment. If you guys need some motivation the actor is LEONARDO DI'CAPRIO!!!! He is one fine man and if that isn't motivation I don't know what is. So even though this movie is long it is directed beautiful, involving the emotions of love, sacrifice, pain, loss and hope. Overall this movie I rate a 10. I hope you guys watch this movie, ps. You might need a box of tissues ;)

Here is the Trailer

Water on Mars?!?

Recently scientist have found water to be on mars! This is in fact amazing!! Some of you are probably like "so what there is water on mars"? But do you guys even understand what this means! This means that there might be life on mars and our predicaments about mars just being a dry planet with no life is false. Though the water may be very salty, water itself is essential for life so there must be life on mars if water is found there. Mars had this water on the planet for a billion years but scientist don't know where it went for those years. They think it must have something to do with space or it is embedded into the crust. Scientist don't exactly know where this water is coming from so they are hypothesizing that this water is coming from either the salts that are sucking up the water in the atmosphere (but there is very little water in the atmosphere) or the water is coming from the subsurface. Mars is a mystery but we all hope that scientist will soon uncover the truths about Mars and this new found liquid water that was found. All we can do is wait and see for what the future holds, and hope the secret of Mars will soon be revealed.

Is social media a barrier to meaningful communication ? Is it a shallow means of communicating?

Social media is a way for people to communication and share opinions using websites or application. But is it really the right way to communicate? It's not. If your looking for meaningful communication social media is not the way. Social media does allow you to express your opinion on topics you want to speak about, but it can also have a negative affect. With someone who could take your opinion in the wrong context or feel like your opinion is attacking them, you'll end up having more problems. But if you had went face to face to address the problem between you two it would have ended simply instead of it being the big mess it is right now. So in fact social media does become a barrier to meaningful communication that causes more problems then it intends to. Even starting conversations with strangers is in fact dangerous as you never know who you are speaking to over the phone. Though people speak to others they know using social media but that is just a shallow means of communicating. Other's may say they feel shy to speak in person, but sooner or later they are going to have to speak to the person face to face. So when that time comes they are not going to know what to say because for them its easier to talk using social media. That's the reason why social media is a shallow way of communicating. It gives people excuses not the go out and speak face to face, preventing the needs of a healthy relationship. Therefore social media is a barrier to meaningful communication as well as a shallow means of communicating.

Uniforms

The secret of whether uniforms are a yes or no?

As much as I hate uniforms and can't wait to get rid of them once I graduate. They are really not that bad. First of all, the amount of money that you save by purchasing about ten to fifteen articles of clothing will cost around four hundred to five hundred dollars (depending on what you buy). For four years that's honestly a great deal. Cause you can go for a shopping spree and easily spend one hundred dollars on about two pairs of jeans and two shirts. An outfit you would wear for two days, before complaining that you have no clothes and automatically go back to the mall for another shopping spree. With uniforms you are able to save time that would be spend picking out clothes for the next day destroying your closet in the process. If you are like me who is indecisive then you know the struggles of spending hours messaging people to help you choose what outfit to wear the next day. Allowing everyone to get annoyed at your constant pictures so with uniform it saves the time and effort in trying to pick an effort. But let me tell you being a high school student is tough work! I'm not even talking about the about of work! You want to be all cool, wear all the latest trends even if that cost money just so we could fit in. Which brings me to my third point of the fact that wearing uniform also gives you a chance to" fit in". With hearing more than a thousand talks from adults about not bullying others and how everyone should feel like they fit in. Half of the student population won't admit that they themselves have the desire to fit in and not be an outcast due to the horrors of a high school reputation. So with wearing a uniforms that the whole school is wearing how could they go wrong in the attire they wear? The answer is they can't. We all would look the same with a few minor differences in regards to long sleeve or short sleeve to pants or a skirt. But overall we all look the same making us equal as students. So take my advice the secret is that uniforms are a yes, they save money, time and give you the confidence to fit in. Uniforms benefit in many ways that aren't seen to the naked eye, so uncover the secret to how great uniforms truly are.

The Body Of A Women:

Does this poem present an interesting view on love or is something else going on here?  Explain your opinion with specific references to the poem

This poem was written beautifully by Pablo Neruda, this poem is very interesting as it expresses a different opinion on love as well of the emotions love involve on a human. Though this poem is called a Body of a women which some may feel it is objectifying women in a sexual way in fact, it is much deeper than that. It is about love itself and the way they make a person feel (there is in fact a secret to the poem about love). In some of the lines in the poem like "I was lone like a tunnel. The birds fled from me, and nigh swamped me with its crushing invasion".
This line in particular describes the narrator feelings and how he/she was. The narrator in this case describes himself as lonely presumably saying he was lone like a tunnel before this "women" and love came. Describing his loneliness are birds and then this nigh swamped me, meaning then love came rushing in invading his life. The author then speaks about the way he viewed this love that came to him saying "To survive myself I forged you like a weapon, like an arrow in my bow, a stone in my sling".The author in this case felt the women to be dangerous because of his feelings for her. So he treated the women as a weapon, something dangerous that he had to protect himself from it. Referring to her as an arrow, or stone something that could hurt him if not handled carefully. But he could no longer resist her saying "But the hour of vengeance falls, and I love you". He no longer can hate her admitting he loves her. This poem is full of love for the women and the feelings he cannot resists. So the author isn't simply sexualizing the body of the women but the feelings of love for this person which he describes by talking about her body. The deeper part of this poem is that it is sadly about heartbreak/heartache these feelings cause. The author says "Dark river-beds where the eternal thirst flows and weariness follows, and the infinite ache". He says his feelings and thirst for her love is like a river always following but undeniably bringing him heartache. There you have it the secret to this poem is the heartbreak that follows due to these feelings. Quite sad right?
